• Hello and welcome to the Biosphere House Pfälzerwald / Northern Vosges in Fischbach.

Here at Biosphere House we have a whole range of exhibits to show you about your place in the environment. We want you to live and experience the themes of nature, energy and history.

You can visit the multimedia stations, walk around the house and its sites, or watch any of the special events held throughout the year.

  • Multimedia exhibition with night floor

Experience a night in the Palatinate Forest, meet the Palatinate lions, and take a look at the world through the eyes of various animals – the multimedia exhibition in the biosphere house takes you on an exciting field trip through the biosphere reserve.

On four floors the attractive exhibition presents basics and special aspects of the biosphere for big and small visitors. Many different interactive stations invite you to explore and play, and all information is presented in German, French and English.

For young children there is a suitable play area on every floor, and school classes can book a rally in which they have to answer questions and solve problems in small teams.

  • The biosphere reserve

A biosphere reserve is a protected area designated for the preservation of typical landscapes all over the world. Under its “Man and Biosphere” program the UNESCO to date has designated 564 biosphere reserves in 109 countries around the globe, 15 of them in Germany.

    Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges
The German-French biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges was recognized by the UNESCO in 1998 and is Germany’s first and so far the only cross-border biosphere reserve.

  • The restaurant in the biosphere house

A high point – in every sense – for the visitor thirsty for adventure as much as for refreshments is the panorama restaurant of the biosphere house.

It offers not only reasonably priced regional and seasonal food, but its large exterior balconies and the glass-covered interior present an unsurpassed view of the Königsbruch nature reserve and the Wasgau region near Fischbach.

  • The energy concept

The biosphere house draws its heating fuel from the sun – and when the sun does not shine we resort to water from a nearby spring. That is how the energy concept of the biosphere house could briefly be summarized.

But wait, it is not quite as simple as that – it takes a whole row of control, storage, and heat transfer systems in between to assure the optimum supply of heat for the building.

  • The treetop trail

Not far from the biosphere house you find Germany’s first treetop trail. It has a length of 270 meters and winds through the crowns of native beeches, oaks, pines and spruces18 to 35 meters above the ground..
